Ever since I got my Audality S3s, I’ve had a lot of fun trying out all the ways I can use my speakers. The total freedom to mix and match any Audality transmitter with any Audality receiver allows me to literally create any scenario I want. At home, I mostly use them to listen to music or watch TV through my projector, but I also discovered that I was able to connect my record player wirelessly to my pair of S3s.* I was already so impressed with all of the options, but once you start adding in more transmitters to the collection it gets almost overwhelming in possibilities. Then you factor in the portable carrying bag, its limitless.
*for the record player, you need to have a pre- amp and the Audality PA1 transmitter
The newest addition to my S3 wireless speaker system is the Audality Wireless Microphone Transmitter. This transmitter has an XLR input and a 3.5mm jack, which allows you to connect the microphone audio and the music source through the same transmitter simultaneously. Combined with any Audality speaker and access the internet for song selection, it creates a totally wireless and portable high fidelity PA system (or in my case, a karaoke system).
My friends and I love to listen to our favorite songs and sing along loudly (and obnoxiously), so karaoke is pretty common when we get together. The problem with traditional karaoke is that it hasn’t made it to the 21st century. Until now, you basically had two options: purchase one of those tacky karaoke machines that everyone had twenty years ago, but hasn’t seen since, or pay to go out to a karaoke bar where they have an elaborate sound set up. If you go the karaoke-machine-at-home route, you can only sing songs from karaoke CDs you own, so there most likely won’t be anything current and the sound quality is pretty crappy.
If you go to a karaoke bar, the sound quality will be much better, but you have to plan specifically to meet at that bar and you are at the mercy of their operational hours. There’s also the issue of stage freight when you take the performance public. I am totally fine embarrassing myself in front of my friends and family, but it’s not as easy when you have to sing Bohemian Rhapsody on stage in front of a crowded bar.
I decided to challenge the problems I had with karaoke this past weekend and I believe I have proved that there is a third option:
A pop up karaoke with my Audality S3 Wireless Speakers + the Audality Wireless Microphone Transmitter
I packed my Audality S3 wireless speakers into the carrying bags that they came with, along with my microphone transmitter and the microphone, and walked them over to my neighborhood pool. They are extremely light, so it wasn’t any different than carrying a small cooler. The set up with the microphone transmitter is just as simple as the USB transmitter that comes with the speaker. Simply plug the mic in to the XLR port, connect your auxiliary cord to the transmitter on one end and the other to your phone. From there you just tap the button to unmute the sound and you are good to go.
Since you are completely wireless, you can pass the transmitter around to whoever wants to sing next, rather than being tied to a stationary machine. When no one is performing, you can just play regular, non-karaoke music and pick the mic back up whenever the mood strikes again. We obviously spent some time relaxing in the pool (and giving my neighbors a break), but we all agreed we will be doing this all summer- and probably trying out some more creative pop-up locations.
